MANILA, Philippines — The Angat Buhay Bayanihan E-Konsulta was reactivated Saturday to cater to general medical and leptospirosis cases in the aftermath of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

Angat Buhay Foundation said in a Facebook post that: “The Bayanihan E-Konsulta is ready to help for general medical cases, including Leptospirosis Prophylaxis cases, especially those who do not have access to [medical] doctors or cannot use other teleconsultation services now due to Kristine.”

Angat Buhay, however, advised the public to seek emergency medical attention at clinics or hospitals if the following symptoms show:

Health experts earlier said humans can contract leptospirosis caused by the leptospira bacteria when they come in contact with water, food, or soil containing contaminated animal urine.

The Department of Health (DOH) previously said people who contracted leptospirosis can also experience:

Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) Dark-colored urine Low urine output Severe headache

The DOH on Friday activated “Code Blue” status in Cagayan Valley, Bicol, and Ilocos; and “Code White” in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), and Western Visayas following Kristine’s devastation.

“Code Blue” status is raised to initiate coordination between dispatch teams, experts, and other emergency response agencies.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said that the total number of storm-related death reports they received reached 81 as of Saturday morning. Of the count, only one fatality has been validated so far.

In a situational report released at 8 a.m. on October 26 regarding the impacts of Kristine, the NDRRMC also disclosed receiving information that 66 people were injured while 34 others went missing as the storm beat parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao since Tuesday, October 22.
